We would like to congratulate all those shortlisted and wish everyone the best for a successful evening and one that celebrates a wide variety of civil engineering projects and skills here in the South West.

ICE discussion on ‘Perspectives on Infrastructure: How can we improve the delivery of UK infrastructure’ report
Current ICE Exeter City Club Chair, Ian Cutler, is joining ICE President Tim Broyd today to discuss a recently launched report on infrastructure. Perspectives on Infrastructure: How can we improve the delivery of UK infrastructure was recently launched by Bristol law firm, Burges Salmon. Partners Ann Metherall and Will Gard will be joined by Tim Broyd and representatives from ICE South West to discuss some of the issues over lunch, to be followed by a key note speech from the President and a number of associated presentations from industry. This forms part of a two day visit to the region by the President, taking in several meetings, discussions and site visits, culminating in the ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards being held in Bristol on Friday night.

International Women in Engineering Day
#INWED17 is a day to celebrate the success of women in what is still very much a male dominated career space.
As a profession that still struggles with encouraging females into the industry and then to retain them throughout their career, IWED pushes barriers and challenges the perception of the title Engineer.
We, as an industry, are getting better, but there is still a long way to go. Whilst gender should not be viewed as more important than ability, unless engineering is seen by females as an exciting, rewarding and welcoming career prospect, there will always be a need for days such as this.
We look forward to the day when we celebrate engineering, no longer having to refer to gender. But in the meantime….. let’s celebrate!
