Faversham Lakes – Slope Analysis and Heritage Building Area

As well as developing the working platform design and supervising band drain installation at Faversham Lakes, GB Card & Partners’ Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer Valentina has also been undertaking slope stability analysis as part of a land raising exercise and flood bund design to protect the Heritage Building Area.

The land raise was required to rebuild an area of bank along the western lakes area of the site. GB Card & Partners provided a specification for fill material and compaction requirements, and undertook slope stability assessment using specialist geotechnical software. The assessment confirmed the long-term stability of various sections along the bank and nearby residential properties.

The geotechnical design of a flood defence bund was carried out to protect the Heritage Building Area. The Heritage Hub will involve the restoration of a 19th century gunpowder factory, providing information on the cultural heritage of the area, as well as offering a variety of educational facilities. The design included a sheet pile core to cut off groundwater, a waterproof membrane wrapped around and beneath the outer bund face, and an outer erosion layer, to limit scouring of the bund surface.

Valentina, along with all at GB Card & Partners, are proud to be working on the Faversham Lakes project, delivering much-needed housing, green space, and community areas on previously disused brownfield land.
